What will I do on
the course?
The PADI Open
Water Diver course consists of three
main phases:

Knowledge Development in a
classroom to understand basic
principles of scuba diving
-
Confined Water Dives to learn
basic scuba skills
-
Open Water Dives to review your
skills and explore!
If you’ve
tried diving through a Discover
Scuba Diving experience or resort
course, the skills you learned may
be credited towards a portion of the
full PADI Open Water Diver course
certification.
How long will
it take?
The standard
Open Water Course is run over 4
Days, with 2 days in the
classroom/pool then 2 days at the
Outer Great Barrier Reef on our
luxury cruise vessel Osprey V.
There are also 5 Day Courses
available that include extra days at
the reef!

When can I
start?
Courses start
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
What is the
Course Itinerary?
Day 1 (Classroom/Pool
Training) - Medical checks and
paperwork completed on site at 8am,
before Classroom and video sessions
commence. Refund on Day 1 applicable
FOR ANY REASON. Lunch break, then
the afternoon pool training session
begins.
Day 2 (Classroom/Pool
Training) - Classroom and video
sessions re-commence & small Exam
completed. Lunch break, before
spending the afternoon finalising
your skills in the training pool.
Full reef biology presentation
available at 'Reef Teach' on the
second night.
Day 3 (Great Barrier Reef)
- Onboard Osprey V we travel to two
exclusive dive sites on the Outer
Great Barrier Reef to conduct a
series of training skills in the
open water environment. 2 dives are
completed. Returning to Cairns at
4:45pm then dropped off at your
accommodation.
Day 4 (Great Barrier Reef)
- we again travel onboard Osprey V
to our exclusive sites for
completion of your course. Once both
dives and all paperwork has been
completed, your Instructor will
present you with your Scuba Diving
Licence! Returning to Cairns at
4:45pm then dropped off at your
accommodation. Drinks and dinner
that night to celebrate your
certification.
Day 5 (optional) - Osprey
(Great Barrier Reef) - with the
optional 5th Day on Osprey V you can
experience the freedom of being a
certified diver by enjoying 3
certified dives at our Outer Reef
Locations at a date of your
choosing. Take off with a buddy to
explore on your own or join our
experienced guides as they show you
the best parts of the reef.
Day 5 (optional) - Adventures
(Great Barrier Reef) -
choose the optional 5th Day
Adventure Course and take your
training to the next level. Extend
your allowed dive depths to up to
40m when you complete your Deep
Dive, perfect your navigation skills
with the Underwater Navigation Dive
and choose one of the many elective
dives (Photography, Fish ID etc.) to
optain your Adventure Diver
Certification.
Do I need to
complete a Dive Medical?
Yes. Before
commencing the PADI Open Water
Course each student must provide a
standard Queensland dive medical
confirming their fitness to dive. If
you do not already have a dive
medical they can be obtained from
our doctor on your arrival at a
reduced cost of $44.
What are the
minimum requirements of the course?
PADI standards
require that each student must be
able to complete a basic swimming
(200m) and floating (10min) test on
the first day of the course.
